NOCHURN VS STRIPE BILLING
Stripe's built-in retention tools vs NoChurn
Stripe Billing already includes Smart Retries, failed payment emails, automatic card updates and basic cancellation offers. NoChurn builds on them with AI-written emails, a full cancel flow, win-back and a churn score.
- PRICEBy MRR, flatFree until $300 MRR, then from $9 a month.
- PLANSEvery feature on every planNo feature tiers, the free plan included.
- FEESNever a cutNo percentage of the revenue we recover.
If you bill with Stripe, you already have a set of retention tools: Smart Retries, failed payment emails, automatic card updates and a customer portal that can ask for a cancel reason and show an offer. Many teams should start there. NoChurn is not a replacement for Stripe Billing. It connects to your Stripe account and adds the parts Stripe does not cover, or covers only lightly.
This page is based on Stripe’s docs as of November 2026. Stripe ships often; check the linked docs for the current behavior.

What Stripe already does well
Smart Retries. Stripe recommends Smart Retries, which choose retry times using data across its network. You can also set a custom schedule with up to three retries. Settings live under Billing, Revenue recovery, Retries. See our guide to Stripe Smart Retries.
Customer emails. Stripe can email customers automatically when a payment fails, when a card is about to expire, or when a payment method needs an update.
Automatic card updates. Stripe works with card networks to update saved cards when a bank issues a replacement. Coverage is wide in the United States and varies by country, and Stripe itself advises keeping a way for customers to update their card. Read more about expiring cards.
Cancellation reasons and offers in the customer portal. The portal can collect a cancel reason. Retention rules, which replace the older retention coupon setting, let you show an offer under conditions such as a specific reason or how long someone has subscribed. Stripe also reports on retention performance. See Stripe customer portal cancellation.
Where Stripe alone is enough. If your volume is small, your customers are mostly on cards with good updater coverage, and you only need one offer at cancel time, Stripe’s tools may be all you need for now. NoChurn is free until $300 MRR, so you can try both, but there is no reason to add a tool you do not need.
Where NoChurn adds to Stripe
Recovery emails that read like you wrote them. NoChurn writes recovery emails with AI for each failed payment, in the customer’s language (English, German, French, Italian or Portuguese), and you review them before they send. Replies are read, sorted, and answered or routed to your team. The hosted card update page keeps card data with Stripe; NoChurn never sees card numbers.
Retry timing, your choice. Keep Smart Retries, or let NoChurn time retries to likely paydays and the customer’s local time.
A full cancel flow. Reason, matching offer (a Stripe coupon, pause_collection, a downgrade or a call), confirm. A one-click “cancel now” is visible on every step. Use the hosted modal with your colors, fonts, logo and custom CSS, or go fully headless and render it in your own web, desktop, iOS or Android app. See cancel flows.
Win-back. Emails at 30, 60 and 90 days after cancellation, written from the reason the customer gave. See win-back.
Churn score at signup. NoChurn reads the payment method Stripe already knows about. Prepaid and disposable virtual cards score as high risk; neobank cards as medium; Stripe Link, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank cards and SEPA as low. Levels adjust to your own history. If a customer removes their card before renewal, NoChurn starts a save flow before the payment fails. See churn score.
Churn drivers from your data. Send attributes like signup source, plan or key usage. NoChurn computes which ones go with churn, with sample size and confidence, and explains the results. Correlation, not cause.
MCP and API. Coding agents can integrate NoChurn through our MCP server; everything is available over a REST API with signed webhooks.
Pricing. Every feature on every plan, priced by MRR: free until $300, then from $9/month up to $399/month at $500k. Never a share of recovered revenue. See pricing.
NoChurn is new and has no customer results to cite yet.
Adding NoChurn to your Stripe setup
- Connect Stripe in a few minutes with Stripe Connect. See the quickstart.
- Decide who sends failed payment emails. If NoChurn handles recovery emails, turn off Stripe’s failed payment emails for those customers so nobody gets both.
- Decide who times retries. Keep Smart Retries or switch to NoChurn timing; do not run two retry schedules.
- Choose your cancel entry point. Keep the Stripe portal for billing details and send the cancel button to the NoChurn flow, or test the two side by side for a period.
- Compare results for the same weeks before you settle on a setup.
How NoChurn helps
NoChurn works alongside Stripe Billing: it adds reviewed, AI-written recovery emails, a full cancel flow with click-to-cancel, win-back at 30, 60 and 90 days, and a churn score at signup, for one flat price by MRR. Start with how to recover failed payments on Stripe or failed payments.
