NoChurn for consumer subscriptions

Many small monthly payments, prepaid cards, and people who forget why they signed up.

  • Retries timed to paydays
  • Prepaid cards flagged at signup
  • Discount signups tracked after the discount

AT CANCEL TIME

Ask why. Offer the right thing. Let them go in one click.

A hosted modal styled like your product, or your own screens on the API. The offer follows the reason, and “Cancel now” stays on every step.

Cancel flows

Consumer subscriptions run on volume: many customers, small monthly charges, and little direct contact. People sign up on impulse, pay with whatever card is in their wallet, and cancel when money is tight or when they stop using the product. NoChurn handles the payment side and the decision side with different tools.

Where consumer subscriptions lose customers

Involuntary churn

  • Insufficient funds. A charge that fails a few days before payday often succeeds a few days after it.
  • Prepaid and disposable virtual cards. Some customers sign up with a card that is designed to run out or be thrown away after a trial.
  • Expired and replaced cards. Consumers rarely update every subscription when they get a new card.
  • Emails nobody opens. A generic “your payment failed” message is easy to ignore.

Voluntary churn

  • Forgotten value. People stop using the product and only notice it again on their bank statement.
  • Seasonal or temporary use. A customer needs the product for a few months, then not for a while.
  • Price sensitivity. A small monthly charge is still one of the first things cut from a budget.
  • Hard-to-find cancel buttons create chargebacks and complaints, not loyal customers.

How NoChurn handles it

Failed payments

NoChurn times retries to likely paydays and to the customer’s local time, or you can keep Stripe Smart Retries. Recovery emails are written by AI for each customer, in their language (English, German, French, Italian or Portuguese), sent by default on day 0, 3, 7 and 14, and reviewed before they go out. Each one links to a hosted card update page that works on a phone; card data stays with Stripe. Replies are read, sorted, and answered or sent to your team. See failed payments.

Churn score

Each customer gets a score from 0 to 100 at signup. Payment method is a strong input: prepaid and disposable virtual cards start as high risk, neobank cards as medium, and Stripe Link, Apple Pay, Google Pay, regular bank cards and SEPA as low. These levels are then learned from your own account’s history, not fixed. Signup source and custom data are added on top. If a customer removes their card before renewal, NoChurn flags it and starts a save flow before the payment fails. See churn score and prepaid and virtual cards.

Cancel flow with consumer-friendly offers

The cancel flow asks why the customer is leaving and shows one matching offer:

  • Not using it right now: pause the subscription for a set period (Stripe supports pausing payment collection).
  • Too expensive: a discount through a Stripe coupon, or a cheaper plan.
  • Found something else or no longer needed: no offer, just a clean exit and a reason you can learn from.

A one-click “cancel now” button is visible on every step. The hosted modal matches your brand (themes, colors, fonts, logo, custom CSS), or you can build your own screens on the headless API. See cancel flows.

Win-back

Customers who cancel receive win-back emails at 30, 60 and 90 days, written from the reason they gave. Someone who paused for the summer and someone who said it was too expensive get different messages.

Custom data worth sending

  • signup_source: do customers from paid social churn more than those from search or referrals?
  • coupon_used: do discount signups stay once the discount ends?
  • trial_days: do customers with a short trial, or none, leave sooner?
  • last_active_at: how many days of inactivity come before a cancel?
  • key_feature_usage: which habit keeps people subscribed?
  • payment_method: do some methods fail more often?
  • country

NoChurn computes which attributes go with churn and AI explains the results. It is correlation, not cause. See custom data.

Setup

Connect Stripe in one click with Stripe Connect. If you bill elsewhere, keep your billing and send subscriptions, payments and cancellations through the REST API. Add the cancel flow with one script tag, or link to the hosted flow from your emails and account page. See the quickstart.

How NoChurn helps

For consumer subscriptions, NoChurn combines payday-aware retries, a risk score that knows prepaid cards from bank cards, pause and discount offers with an honest cancel button, and win-back emails based on the cancel reason. Every feature is on every plan; you pay by MRR band, never a share of what is recovered. See pricing, or the pages for memberships and communities and mobile apps.
