Paddle Retain alternative: NoChurn vs Paddle Retain

Paddle Retain began life as ProfitWell Retain. Paddle acquired ProfitWell in 2022 and folded Retain into its platform. Today it handles failed payment recovery and, for Paddle Billing customers, cancellation flows. NoChurn does the same jobs plus win-back for teams on Stripe, or any billing through a REST API, and charges one flat price based on MRR.

Where Paddle Retain is a good fit

• You already bill with Paddle Billing. Retain is included at no extra cost, and the customer portal can launch cancellation flows automatically. Adding another paid tool on top only makes sense if you need something Retain does not cover.
• You want Paddle as merchant of record. Paddle bundles billing, tax and retention in one vendor. NoChurn is not a billing system or a merchant of record.
• You prefer to pay only when something is recovered. On other billing platforms, Retain is priced as a commission on what it recovers each month. Some teams like that model because the cost tracks results.

Where NoChurn is different

A flat price, never a commission. NoChurn is free until $300 MRR, then from $9/month, in small steps up to $399/month at $500k MRR. We never take a share of recovered revenue, so the more we recover, the cheaper each recovered dollar gets. See pricing.

Every feature on every plan. Cancel flows, win-back, custom data and API are not reserved for one billing platform or tier.

Stripe first, any billing through the API. Stripe connects in one click. Without Stripe, you keep your billing and send subscriptions, payments and cancellations to our REST API. A one-click Paddle connector is planned, with no date yet.

Recovery you can read before it goes out. Retries can be timed to likely paydays and the customer’s local time, or you keep Stripe Smart Retries. AI-written emails on days 0, 3, 7 and 14 are reviewed before sending and written in the customer’s language. Replies are read and answered or sent to your team. See failed payments.

Click-to-cancel built in. A one-click “cancel now” is visible on every step of the flow.

Headless and MCP. Use the hosted modal (themes, fonts, custom CSS) or render the flow yourself on web, desktop, iOS or Android through the API. Coding agents can integrate it with our MCP server. See headless and MCP.

Churn score at signup. A 0 to 100 score from payment method, signup source and custom data. Customers who remove their card before renewal are flagged so a save flow can start before the payment fails. See churn score.

NoChurn is new and has no customer results to cite. Paddle has run Retain at scale for years.

1. If you are on Stripe, connect it in a few minutes with the quickstart. If you are on Paddle Billing, use our API until the Paddle connector ships, and weigh that against Retain being included in your plan.
2. Pick one owner for retries and emails. During a test period, split customers so each failed payment is handled by one tool only.
3. Set up your cancel reasons and offers, and the win-back emails for each reason.
4. Compare cost and results for the same weeks: your Retain commission against NoChurn’s flat price, and recovered payments in each group.
