Many mobile apps sell subscriptions on the web through Stripe, while customers spend their time in the app. That creates a gap: billing events happen on the web, but the moment someone decides to leave happens on a phone. NoChurn closes that gap with a headless API you can draw natively on iOS and Android.
What NoChurn covers, and what it does not
NoChurn works with subscriptions billed on the web, through Stripe or through your own billing system via the API.
In-app subscriptions bought through the App Store or Google Play are managed by Apple and Google. Their billing, payment retries and cancellation happen inside those stores (Apple subscriptions, Google Play Billing). NoChurn connects to both stores: renewals, billing issues, cancellations and refunds land in the same customer timeline, scores and win-back as your web subscribers. Payment retries and the cancel button stay with Apple and Google, so for store subscribers NoChurn warns the customer and points them to the store instead of retrying or cancelling itself.
Where mobile apps lose web subscribers
Involuntary churn
- Cards saved once, on the web, months ago. The customer has forgotten where they paid, so a failed payment email feels unfamiliar.
- Card updates on a small screen. If the update page is hard to use on a phone, people give up.
- Prepaid and virtual cards used to sign up for trials.
Voluntary churn
- The app goes unopened. Usage drops, and the subscription becomes something to cut.
- Cancel happens outside your flow. If the in-app “manage subscription” button just opens a generic page, you miss the chance to ask why or to offer an alternative.
- Short-term needs. Fitness, travel, learning and productivity apps often have seasonal use.
How NoChurn handles it
Failed payments
NoChurn retries failed web payments at times that match the customer’s local time and likely paydays, or you can keep Stripe Smart Retries. AI-written recovery emails go out by default on day 0, 3, 7 and 14, in the customer’s language, reviewed before sending. They link to a hosted card update page that works on mobile and opens in the browser; card data stays with Stripe. See failed payments.
Churn score
At signup each customer gets a score from 0 to 100, based on payment method, signup source and your custom data. If a customer removes their card before renewal, NoChurn flags it and starts a save flow before the payment fails.
Native cancel flow with the headless API
The headless API gives you the cancel reasons and offers for a customer, and you send back the answer. You draw every screen in SwiftUI, UIKit, Jetpack Compose or your cross-platform framework. The flow is the same as on the web:
- The customer picks a reason.
- They see a matching offer: pause, discount through a Stripe coupon, or a smaller plan.
- They accept the offer or confirm the cancel.
A one-click “cancel now” option stays visible on every step, on mobile too. If you prefer not to build screens, the hosted flow can open in a web view or the browser. Coding agents can also integrate it through the NoChurn MCP server. See cancel flows.
Win-back
Customers who cancel get win-back emails at 30, 60 and 90 days, written from the cancel reason.
Custom data worth sending
last_active_at: last app open. How long does a subscriber stay inactive before canceling?key_feature_usage: sessions, workouts, lessons, or whatever your core action is.signup_source: app install campaign, web, referral.trial_daysandcoupon_usedcountry- platform (for example
iosorandroid), as your own attribute name
NoChurn computes which attributes go with churn, and AI explains the result. Correlation, not cause. See custom data.
Setup
Connect the Stripe account that bills your web subscriptions in one click, or send subscriptions, payments and cancellations through the REST API if you bill elsewhere. Then call the headless API from your app to fetch reasons and offers and post the answer. See the API reference.
How NoChurn helps
For mobile apps with web billing, NoChurn recovers failed web payments, lets you build the cancel flow natively on iOS and Android with the same offers and one-click cancel as on the web, and shows which usage patterns go with churn. For App Store and Google Play subscribers, retries and cancellation stay with Apple and Google. See pricing, or the pages for consumer subscriptions and online courses.
